| streak | the color of the powder left behind when you rub a mineral against a rough white tile, or a streak plate |
| luster | the way a mineral’s surface reflects light is a property |
| hardness | a mineral’s ability to resist being scratched |
| rock | a natural solid made of one or more minerals |
| igneous rock | rock that forms when melted rock cools and hardens |
| depostion | process in which sediment settles out of water or is dropped by the wind |
| sedimentary rock | cemented sediment |
| metamorphic rock | rock changed by heat and pressure |
| weathering | process of wearing away rocks by natural processes |
| erosion | process of wearing away and removing sediment by wind, water, or ice |
| rock cycle | continuous process in which one type of rock changes into another type |
