cell cycle the periods of growth, development, and division of a cell in an organism
interphase the period including just a cell's growth and development
sister chromatids two identical chromosomes
centromere a structure that holds two sister chomatids together
mitosis the process during which the nucleus and its contents divide
cytokinesis the process during which the cytoplasm and its contents divide
daughter cells the two new cells that result from mitosis and cytokinesis
cell differentation the process by which cells become different types of cells
stem cells unspecialized cells that are able to develop into many different cell types
tissues groups of similar types of cells that work together to carry out specific tasks
organs groups of different tissues working together to perform a particular job
organ systems groups of different organs that work together to complete a series of tasks
