| tissue | a group of similar cells that work together to preforms the same function |
| organ | is a group made of two or more types of tissue that work together to carry out one specific function |
| organ system | a group of organs working together |
| passive transport | is the movement of substances through membranes without the use of the cells energy |
| osmosis | is the movement of water particles through a membrane |
| cellular resperation | plants and animals use the energy from glucose |
| active transport | when energy is required to move materials through a cell membrane |
| cell cycle | others divide and produce new cells, replacing dead cells |
| mitosis | as the cells nucleus each cell receives a full set of chromosomes |
| zygote | two cells join to form a single cell |
| meiosis | the nucleus of a cell divides twice |
| fertilization | occurs when a sperm cell joins an egg cell |
