Pluton
| Term | Definition |

| Pluton | A body of intrusive igneous rock. |
| Xenolith | A rock fragment which becomes enveloped in a larger rock. |
| Intrusive | Of, relating to, or formed by intrusion. |
| Sills | A tabular sheet intrusion that has intruded between older layers of sedimentary rock, beds of volcanic lava or tuff. |
| Laccoliths | A sheet intrusion (or concordant pluton) that has been injected between two layers of sedimentary rock. |
| Batholiths | A large body of intrusive igneous rock. |
| Dikes | A sheet of rock that formed in a fracture in a pre-existing rock body. |
| Columnar Joints | A geological structure where sets of intersecting closely spaced fractures, referred to as joints, result in the formation of a regular array of polygonal prisms, or columns. |
