| mitosis | The cell's nucleus divides, each new cell receives a full set of chromosomes. |
| zygote | the two cells join to form a single cell |
| meiosis | the nucleus of a cell divides twice |
| fertilization | occurs when a sperm cell joins an egg cell |
| passive transport | is the movement of substances through membranes |
| osmosis | is the movement of water particles through the membrane |
| cellular respiration | During cellular respiration cells break down glucose to release energy |
| active transport | energy is required to move minerals and nutrients into or out of a cell |
| cell | is the basic unit of capable of life |
| tissue | a group of similar cells that work together |
