Identifying Minerals Directed Reading

What is streak?? The color of the mineral in powdered form.
The easiest way to observe the streak of a mineral is to?? Rub some of the mineral against a streak plate.
What is true of the streak’s color?? It may differ from the color of the mineral in solid form.
What kind of streak do metallic minerals generally have?? Dark.
What color is calcite in ordinary light?? White.
What color does calcite appear to be in ultraviolet light?? Red.
Minerals with the property of fluorescence?? Absorb ultraviolet light and then produce visible light of various colors.
Phosphorescence is the property that causes a mineral to?? Glow after ultraviolet light is turned off.
What is a chatoyancy?? A appearance some minerals display in reflected light.
What it chatoyancy also called?? Cat’s-Eye Effect.
Glassy Luster?? Transparent quartz and other minerals that look like glass.
Waxy Luster?? Minerals that have the appearance of candle wax.
Pearly Luster?? Minerals such as mica.
Brilliant Luster?? Diamond, for example.
Dull or Earthy Luster?? Mineral that lacks any shiny appearance.
