| absorb | to take in. |
| energy | the ability to cause matter to change or move. |
| lens | a piece of curved glass, plastic, or other material that refracts light. |
| light | a form of energy that you can see. |
| opaque | a material that blocks light from passing through it. |
| prism | a piece of glass or other transparent material that separates light into colors. |
| reflect | when light waves bounce off surfaces. |
| refract | when light "bends". when light moves from one transparent material to another, such as to air to glass or to water. |
| shadow | an area where light does not strike. |
| translucent | a material that allows some light to pass through it, but scatters the light in many directions - frosted glass. |
| transparent | material that allows light to pass through it - clear plastic or glass. |
