Light vocab

absorb to take in.
energy the ability to cause matter to change or move.
lens a piece of curved glass, plastic, or other material that refracts light.
light a form of energy that you can see.
opaque a material that blocks light from passing through it.
prism a piece of glass or other transparent material that separates light into colors.
reflect when light waves bounce off surfaces.
refract when light "bends". when light moves from one transparent material to another, such as to air to glass or to water.
shadow an area where light does not strike.
translucent a material that allows some light to pass through it, but scatters the light in many directions - frosted glass.
transparent material that allows light to pass through it - clear plastic or glass.
