| Term | Definition |

| Condensation | Occurs in the atmosphere; water vapor cools and turns to liquid or ice; creates clouds |
| Evaporation | Occurs in the oceans and other bodies of water; sunlight/heat causes liquid water to be turned into water vapor (gas) |
| Precipitation | Water droplets become to heavy to remain in the atmosphere and fall back to Earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail |
| Runoff | Water that flows across the land and collects in rivers, lakes streams, and eventually the ocean; causes erosion |
| Groundwater | Water that soaks into the Earth to be stored or used by plants; can create caves; groundwater can also be returned to the ocean. |
| Transpiration | Water vapor released through the leaves of plants of from animals |
| Water Cycle | The movement of water from the ocean to the atmosphere to the land and back to the ocean |
