| composite | type of volcano that has smooth flowing lava and sometimes explosions. |
| subduction | Edge of a plate of the earth's crust into the mantle beneath another plate. |
| caldera | a large volcanic crater. |
| batholith | a very large igneous intrusion deep in the earths crust. |
| lava plateu | basaltic lava during numerous eruptions. |
| sill | solidified lava between layers of rock. |
| Dike | A vertical or diagonal layer of solidified lava in cracks of rocks. |
| hot spring | a spring of naturally hot water. |
| Ring Of Fire | Formed by many volcanoes that rim the Pacific Ocean. |
| geyser | surface that releases blowing hot water and steam. |
| tephra | fragments and particles ejected by a volcanic eruption. |
| stratovolcano | another name for a composite volcano. |
