Earth Cycles

5th grade earth cycles vocabulary

Rotation Turning around on an axis; spinning.
Revolution To move around another object along a circular path, as in an orbit.
Planet A large circular mass that revolves around a star.
Lunar Phase Stages having to do with the moon or moon cycles.
Seasons A period of the year determined by the position of Earth as it revolves around the Sun.
Atmosphere Layers of gas that surround a planet.
Gravity The force that attracts a body toward the enter of the earth, or toward any other physical body having more mass.
Solar System The collection of nine planets and their moons in orbit around the Sun.
Tides The alternate rising and falling of the sea, usually twice in each lunar day at a particular time.
Patterns An observable repetition that can be recorded or calculated.
Axis An imaginary line that an object spins or revolves around.
