In which state of matter can water exist in nature on earth? Solid, liquid, and gas
what happens when you add sugar to water? it starts to bubble
what causes water's unique properties? the moliquels inside of water
why does ice float in water? water becomes less dense when frozen
why does surface water sink and the water on the bottom rise? the bottom water is warmer then the top water so it will rise above the surface water
what causes drops to form? the magnetic pull from the molecules?
what is polarity? the condition in which the opposite ends of the molecules have slightly different charges
why do water molecules attract each other? because of the magnetic pull between different charges
what are the five oceans on earth? pacific, Atlantic, Indian, southern, and arctic ocean
what is salinity? it's a measure or the mass of dissolved solids in a mass of water
how did the water in the ocean become salty? by the rain water breaking down minerals then carrying them through rivers and streams to the ocean
what are two sources of water for earth's oceans? water vapor expelled from volcanoes that condense and precipitate, and melted ice from comets and asteroids
what are 3 ocean zones? surface zone, middle zone, and deep zone
what two types of resources are found on the sea floor? energy resources and minerals
in the tropical region, as depth increases, what does density do? increases
in the polar region, as depth increases, than what does salinity do? increase
what are ocean currents? rivers of water running through the ocean
what do buoys drift in, if their in the ocean? currents
what is the most powerful ocean current? the gulf stream
ere is the gulf stream located? Atlantic ocean
what causes ocean currents? wind
ocean water is what kind of water? salt water
has the amount of salt in the ocean changed? no
what does sea level mean? the land is the same height as the sea
