What is adhesion? Attraction among molecules that are alike.
What is cohesion? Attraction among molecules that are not alike.
What is denser, Ice or Water? Water
What temperature is the density of water the highest at? 4 degrees Celsius
Is there Oxygen molecules or Hydrogen molecules in a water molecule? Hydrogen
Is a Oxygen molecule slightly positive or negative? Slightly negative
Is a Hydrogen molecule slightly negative or positive? Slightly positive
What forms does H2O form naturally on Earth? Liquid, Solid, and Gas
What are the five Earth's oceans? Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Southern Ocean.
What is the largest ocean? Pacific Ocean
What is salinity? The amount of salt in water.
What is seawater? Water from the sea with salt in it.
What is brackish water? Water that has both fresh and salt water in it.
What are the two sources of water for Earths oceans? Glaciers, and rain
What are the four criteria scientists use when classifying ocean zones? Temperature, Sunlight, Salinity, and Density
What are Mid-ocean ridges? Underwater mountain
What is a gyre? A circular system of currents
What is a Ocean current? A large volume of water flowing in a certain direction.
What are the 5 major gyres? North Pacific, South Pacific, North Atlantic, South Atlantic, and Indian Ocean.
How does density currents form? Changes in density
How does surface currents affect weather and climate? Warm-water currents are warmer and wetter than cold-water currents.
What are density currents? Vertical current that takes surface water down down deep.
What is an upwelling? When wind blows across the oceans surface, pushes water away the area.
What is the benefit of upwellings? It takes the rich water from the deep ocean to the ocean surfuce.
