What is adhesion? Attraction among molecules that are alike.
What is cohesion? Attraction among molecules that are not alike.
What is denser ice, water, or water vapor? Water.
What temperature(C) is the density of water the highest at? 4 degrees Celsius
Is an Oxygen molecule positively or negatively charged? Negative
Is there Helium in a particle of H2O? No.
What causes the attraction of H2O molecules to the other? The positive and negative charges they have.
What forms does H2O come in naturally on Earth? Liquid, Solid, Gas
What is the saltiest ocean? Atlantic Ocean
Name the source of water for an ocean? Volcanic Eruptions, and Asteroids and Comets
In polar regions what decreases as depth decreases? Salinity
What are Abyssal Plains? Large flat areas of sea floor.
What are the deepest parts of the ocean called? Ocean Trenches.
What type of water is a mix of seawater and fresh water? Brackish.
Define salinity? A measure of dissolved solids in water.
What surface zone has organisms that make food through photosynthesis? Surface Zone.
What is an Ocean Current? A large volume of water flowing in a certain direction.
What three oceans have major gyres? Atlantic, Pacific, Indian
What way do currents rotate in the Southern Hemisphere? To the left in a counter clockwise direction.
What are the benefits of an upwelling. It brings up nutrient rich water to the surface.
What current(s) move water horizontally? Surface Currents.
Summarize how surface currents affect weather and climate. It transfers thermal energy and moisture into the air from the water.
How do prevailing winds affect ocean currents? It affects the formation and direction of the currents.
What are Density Currents? Cold salty water sinking below the less dense warmer water.
