environmental issues any problems related to nature that could be natural or human-caused
natural resource any living or non-living thing in the environment
renewable resource any living or non-living thing in the environment this is naturally replaced in a short period of time
non-renewable resource any living or non-living thing in the environment that is not replaced as they are used
inexhaustible resource any resource that cannot be used up
habitat fragmentation a consequence caused by the types of resource-related environmental issues; as a habitat gets broken into smaller pieces, the number of species in the pieces decreases
pollution the contamination of any part of the environment
point pollution water contamination that comes from a “single identifiable localized source”
non-point pollution a type of water pollution that does not come from a direct source
biological magnification the process by which chemicals accumulate in higher concentrations in the tissues of organisms higher in the food chain/web
Global Warming an increase in the Earth’s temperature that occurs over time; influenced by the increase in greenhouse gasses caused by fossil fuel use & deforestation
costs the values given to an item (may or may not be monetary)
