Gravity & Motion
Sicence
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Mass | Body of matter with no specific shape, weight, depends on gravity Ex: Sun is very massive |
| Matter | Something that has mass and takes up space = solid, liquid, gas, & plasma Ex: raindrops, snow, water, vapor, Earth |
| Gravity | Force of action between 2 objects; both depend on mass & distance |
| Rotation | Movement of an object on its axis spinning counter-clockwise |
| Revolution | Movement of a celestial object around another orbital path |
| Orbit | A path a celestial object takes around another |
| Newton-law of universal gravitation | Every object in the universe attracts every other object |
| Inertia | The tendency of an object to resist a change in motion. More mass=greater the inertia |
| Newtons | Units that measure the force of gravity |
| The strength of the force of gravity between 2 objects depends on 2 factor: the masses of the objects & the distance between them. |
