| Vesicular | Pumice rock |
| Felsic | Forms from magma with high concentration of silica |
| Mafic | Forms from magma with high concentration of iron and magnesium |
| Compaction | Process by which sediments progressively loses its porosity due to the effects of loading |
| Cementation | The binding together of particles or other things by cement |
| Chemical sedimentary rock | Form by precipitation of minerals from water |
| Organic sedimentary rock | Form from the accumulation and lithification of organic debris like leaves, roots and other animal or plant material |
| Clastic sedimentary rock | Clast of fragment of geological detritus, chunks and smaller grains of rock broken off other rocks by physical weathering |
