Chapter 4 Section 3

Phospholipid Bilayer
Chromosome When a cell is about to divide, the DNA condenses to form these
Nuclear Envelope The nucleus is surrounded by a double membrane
Nucleolus Most nuclei contain at least one denser area- It is the site where the DNA is concentrated when it is in the process of making ribosomal RNA
Ribosome Organelles made of protein and RNA that direct protein synthesis in the cytoplasm
Mitochondrion Tiny organelles that transfer energy from organic molecules to ATP
Endoplasmic Reticulum System of membranous tubes and sacs, called cisternae
Golgi Apparatus Another system of flattened, membranous sacs
Lysosome Vesicles that bud from the Golgi apparatus and that contain digestive enzyme
Cytoskeleton Network of thin tubes and filaments that crisscross the cytosol
