| coal | the fossil fuel that is formed underground from decomposed plants. |
| petroleum | a liquid mixture of hydrocarbon compounds used as a fuel |
| natural gas | a gaseous mixture of hydrocarbons used as a fuel |
| nonrenewable resource | a resource that forms at a rate that is much slower than the rate at which it is consumed |
| renewable resource | a natural resource that can be replaced at the same rate at which the resource is consumed |
| natural resource | any natural material that is used by humans, such as water, petroleum, minerals, forests, and animals |
| geysers | natural vents that discharge steam or water from Earth |
| fusion | two or more nuclei joining together to form a new nucleus |
| energy resources | natural resources that humans use to generate energy |
