Vocabulary Earth Science

inflitration precipitation that has fallen on land trickles into the ground and becomes groundwater
zone of saturation region where groundwater completely fills the pores
water table the level below which the ground is saturated with water.

karst topography a landscape formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes, dolines, and caves
stalactite a form of dripstone that hangs from the ceiling like icicles and forms gradually
stalagmite mound shaped dripstones that are on the ground
well holes dug or drilled into the ground to reach and aquifer
drawdown the distance that the water table drops
recharge the process of precipitation replenishing the water content of an aquifer
artesian well artesian aquifer can spurt above the land surface in the form of a fountain
