| asexual reproduction | makes an identical copy |
| Virchow | discovered that all cells come from preexisting cells |
| cell cycle | a process of work development, and division of the cell |

| Interphase | cell does it's job, copies DNA, and grows in size |
| Prophase | DNA condenses into chromosomes, nucleus disappears |
| Metaphase | chromosomes line up down the middle of the cell; attach to spindle fibers |
| Anaphase | spindle fibers pull the chromosomes apart |
| Telophase | chromosomes uncoil as they reach the poles of cell; nucleus reappears; cleavage furrow begins to separate the cell into two |
| Cytokinesis | cytoplasm divides; 2 identical daughter cells are formed |
| cell plate | formed in plant cells and will make a new cell wall |
| centriole | only in animal cells, pulls the chromosomes apart |
| cancer | cause when cells divide out of control |
