Earth Science Vocabulary 2

TermDefinition
Weathering The braking of materials by natural means .
Principle of uniformity Things that changed the Earth every day.
Mechanical weathering The process of braking rocks into smaller pieces.
Chemical weather Alters or changes the composition of a rock.
Subsurface Below the surface of the Earth.
Anticlines The upward part of the fold.
Synclines The down word part of the fold.
Plateaus Flat areas that have been pushed above sea level by forces with in the Earth.
Fault A crack in the crust.
Epiocenter The point where the waves first reach earth's surface.
Focus The point were the surface where seismic activity begin .
Seismic waves Earthquake Vibration.
