Chapter 1

TermDefinition
Hypothesis A statement of what you think will happen during an investigation.
Observation Is something you find out about objects, events, or living things by using your senses.
Experiment Is the use of scientific methods to test your hypothesis.
Variable Is something that change in a test.
Independent Variable Is one that you can control.
Dependent Variable Changes a when a independent variable changes. It is what gets measured. It gives you data.
Control Group The group that doesn't get the special treatment.
Procedures Are a step by step instructions for completing a task.
Data Are information from which a conclusion can be drawn or a prediction can be made.
Precision Is the ability to consistently repeat a measurement.
Accuracy Is the ability to make a measurement that is as close to the actual value as possible.
Inference Is a conclusions based on observations.
Evidence They are observations that make you believe that something is true.
Model Are objects or ideas that represent other things.
Surveys Questions that are answered by people. Great for option questions.
Sampling Examining random individuals from a population.
Experimental Group The group that gets the special treatment.
