Chapter 1

Term Definition
Hypothesis is a statement of what you think will happen in an investigation.
Observation is something you find out about objects, events, or living things by using your senses.
Experiment is the use of scientific methods to test your hypothesis.
Variable something can change in a test.
Independent Variable one you can control.
Dependent Variable changes when an independent variable changes. it is what gets measured. it gives you data
Control group not special group treatment
Procedures step by step instructions for completing a task
Data are info from which a conclusion can be drawn or a prediction can be made
Precision the ability to constantly repeat a measurement
Accuracy the ability to make a measurement that is as close to the actual value as possible
Inference a conclusion based on observations
Evidence observations that make you believe that something is true
Model objects or ideas that represent other things
Experimental Group the group that gets a special treatment
Surveys questions that are answered by people. great for opinion
