the nature of science

TermDefinition
hypothesis a statement of what you think will happen during an investigation.
observation something you find out about objects, events, or living things by using your senses.
experiment the use of scientific methods to test your hypothesis.
dependent variable variable something that can change a test. it is what is measured. this is your data.
control group a standard against which change is measured.
procedures step-by-step instructions for completing a task
data information from which a conclusion can be drawn or a prediction can be made.
precision the ability to consistently repeat a measurement
accuracy the ability to make a measurement that that is as close to the actual value as possible.
models objects or ideas that represent other things.
survey questions that are answered by people. great for opinion questions.
inference a conclusion based on observations.
evidence Observations that make you believe that something is true.
sampling examining random indivials from a population
experimental group the group that gets the special treatment
