| hypothesis | is a statement of what you think will happen during an investigation |
| observation | is something you can find out about objects, events, or living things by using your senses |
| experiment | is the use of scientific methods to test your hypothesis |
| variable | is something that can change in a test |
| control group | the group that doesn't get the special treatment |
| procedures | are step by step instructions for completing a task |
| data | are information from which a conclusion can be drawn or a prediction can be made |
| precision | is the ability to consistently repeat a measurement |
| accuracy | is the ability to make a measurement that is as close to the actual value as possible |
| inference | is a conclusion based on observations |
| evidence | are observations that make you believe that something is true |
| independent variable | is one that you can control |
| dependent variable | changes when an independent variable changes, it is what gets measured, gives you data |
| models | objects or ideas that represent other things |
| survey | questions that are answered by people |
| sampling | examine random individuals from a population |
| experimental group | the group that gets the special treatment |
