petrified wood Fossilized wood, made of minerals
molds Hollow spaces in mud/ rock left behind by an organism

relative age dating A technique to determine the age of rock layers using a comparison about the rock layering – not precise
inclusion Sedimentary rocks that gets stuck inside igneous intruder (magma) as magma travels through the rock layers
igneous intruder Igneous (magma) that travels through the rock layers and picks up sedimentary rocks
fault A movement within the crust of the Earth
absolute age dating A dating technique in which radioactive isotopes are measured in rock layers.
half-life The time it takes for half of the radioactive isotopes to decay
correlation The matching of rock layers using clues
catastrophism A theory that says that Earth was formed due to major bad events, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions (sudden and violent)
uniformitarianism A theory that states that the Earth’s formation is based on slow gradual events, Erosion, flooding, plate movement.
