Salmon Terms

TermDefinition
Anadromous Are fish that migrate from the sea to fresh water to spawn
Spawn The reproduction of salmon
Natal stream The home stream of a salmon / where it was born
Alevin A newly spawned salmon or trout still carrying the yolk
Fry Alevin that have developed to the point where they are capable of feeding themselves
Smolt About two years old that is at the stage of development when it assumes the silvery color of the adult and is ready to migrate to the sea.
Milt The semen of a male fish.
