What are the three major types of rocks? they are igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary
What cycle is the cycle that rocks go through that changes them to one type of rock to another? it is the rock cycle
How do igneous rocks form? they form from lava or magma that hardens
What are intrusive igneous rocks? they are rocks that form when Magma hardens( in the ground)
What sre extrusive igneous rocks? they are rocks that form when Lava hardens( on the surface)
What three proccesses happen to sedimentary rocks? the processes that occur are weathering, erosion, and deposition
Where was a sedimentary rock formed if it has ripple marks? It was formed in water.
What are the agents of metamorphism? the agents are heat, pressure(stress), and reactions in solution
what are the two classifications of a metamorphic rock? they two classifications are foliated abd nonfoliated
What is a corase-grained texture? It's texture that shows slow cooling results in the formation of large crystals.
What is fine-grained texture? It's texture that shows rapid cooling of magma or lava that results in rocks with samll, interconnected mineral grains.
What is a porphyritic texture? It's a texture that contains a large body of magma that has been harden over the thousand years.
What is a granitic composition? Igneous rocks in which these are the main minerals are said to have a granitic compositon.
What is a basaltic composition? Rocks that contain many dark silicate minerals and plagioclase feldspar.
What is compactation? It's a process that squezzes, or compacts, sediments.
What is cementation? It takes place when dissolved minerals are deposited in the tiny spaces among the sediments.
What are clastic sedimentary rocks? They are rocks that are made of weathered bits of rocks and minerals
What are chemical sedimentary rocks? They are rocks that are dissolved minerals when they precipitate from water solutions.
How are sedimentary rocks useful? The many unique feautures of sedimentary rocks are clues to how, when, and where the rocks formed
