Circulation and Respiration

QuestionAnswer
Red Blood Cells Provide hemoglobin and contains oxygen.
White Blood Cells Fight diseases and foreign invaders
Plasma Holds the cells together in suspension and is made up mainly of water.
Heart Push the blood around the body.
Materials Oxygen and food needed by cells and are dissolved in the blood.
Passageway blood vessels to direct the flow of blood to all body cells.
Right side of Heart Carries un-oxygenated blood.
Left side of Heart Carries oxygenated blood.
upper chamber Atria
Lower Chamber ventricles
Pulmonary circulation Blood on the right side is pumped to the lungs.Blood becomes oxygenated(picks up oxygen) in lungs and returns to left side of Heart.
Systemic Circulation Blood from left side of heart is pumped to all body cells. Blood delivers oxygen, and picks up carbon dioxide at cells and returns to right side of the heart.
Arteries Carry blood away from the heart
Veins Carries blood towards the heart.
capillaries Connect arteries and veins. They allow material to diffuse between blood and cells.
Valves Prevents blood from going backwards when the heart relaxes. The closing of the valve creates heart beat sound. Valve in veins stop blood from falling backward.
Atria Contracts simultaneously and move blood to the ventricles.
Ventricles Have muscular walls which are required of moving blood out of the heart and through the pulmonary or systemic circuit.
The blood from the right side of the heart goes to the Lungs
Systole Contraction of the heart, higher pressure of blood in blood vessels.
Diastole Relaxion of the heart, filling with blood, lower pressure of blood in blood vessels.
Respiratory System Delivers oxygen to blood, and pick up carbon dioxide waste from blood (gas exchange).
Nose and Mouth Air is warmed, moistened and filter.
Trachea Traps dust, pollen, bacteria, viruses in mucus and pushes it out with cilia.
Bronchi First branches into right or left lung.
Bronchioles Branches smaller and smaller through lungs.
Alveoli Tiny air sacs for gas exchange.
