Landslides A very rapid movement of earth and rock (regolith) down a steep slope
Regolith Loose material including soil and rock.
Mudflows Moving rivers of rock, soil and water. They are the fastest forms of movement.

Weathering Breakdown and decay of rocks that are exposed to weather.
Lahar A mudflow that contains volcanic ash and rock.
Gradient Water content Human activity Vegetation What are the four factors that affect mass movement
Igneous rock formed as a result of volcanic activity. Hot molten magma cooled down.
Sedimentary rocks Formed from the remains (sediments) other rocks, plant and animal life compressed and cemented together.
Metamorphic rocks Previously sedimentary and igneous but changed by great heat or pressure
