What is a rock? A rock is any solid mass of mineral or mineral like material that is a naturally occuring part of the planet.
What are three major types of rocks? Igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks, and sedimentary rocks.
What is the rock cycle? The rock cycle is the interactions between Earth's water, air, and land that causes rocks to change from one type to another type.
How are sedimentary rocks created? Sediments are compacted and cemented.
How iare metamorphic rocks created? They are changed by heat,pressure, or fluids.
How is magma formed? When rock melt beneath earth surface
How are igneous rocks formed? When magma or lava cools
How is sediment formed or created? Rocks at Earth's surface are broken down by weathering?
How does an instrusive igneous rock form? Magma cools slowly beneath Earth's surface.
How does an extrusive igneous rock form? When lava cools quickly at earths surface
How are igneous rocks classified? Texture and compostiton.
Balsatic composition rocks that contain many dark silicate minerals and plagioclase feldspar
What minerals are found in andesitic rocks? Amphibole, pyroxene, biotite
What is peridotite composed of? entirely dark silicate minerals
What is compaction? A process that squeezes and compacts sediments
Erosion involves what? weathering and the removal of rock
What is deposition? when sediments are dropped by water, wind, ice, or gravity
What are the names of the rock groups that classified as clastic sedimentary rocks? Conglomerate, Breccia, And Sandstone
What are the fourt processes that form sedimentary rocks? weathering, deposition, erosion, compaction and cemention.
What does rapid cooling of magma or lava result in? rocks with small, interconnected mineral grains.
