Solar winds A continuous stream of charged particles from the sun. Causes beautiful light displays in the sky called auroras.
Atmosphere The layer of gases all around a planet.
mass The amount of matter in an object.
weight The pull of gravity on a mass.
solar system A star together with the planets and all the other objects that orbit the sun.
asteroid A rocky mass orbiting the sun that is greater than 10 meters in diameter but smaller than a planet.
meteoroid a rocky mass orbiting the sun that is smaller than 10 meters in diameter.
comet A rocky mass orbiting the sun that shows a trail behind it because its surface is covered with ice that is being converted from frozen straight to gas by the radiation of the sun.
microgravity very small amounts of gravity affect masses. (almost zero gravity)
zero gravity No measurable gravity is affecting masses.
solar radiation all the energy that radiates out from the sun, including heat, visible light, and ultraviolet wavelengths.
slingshot effect Using the gravity of a planet to save time or fuel by "speeding up" or changing the direction of a spacecraft.
