What is a rock? A rock is any solid mass of mineral or mineral-like matter that occurs naturally.
What are the three major types of rocks? The three major types of rocks are igneous, sedimemntary, and metamorphic.
What is the rock cycle? The rock cycle consists of many processec that change Earth's rocks.
What powers Earth's rock cycle? Heat from Earth's interior and energy from the sun power the rock cycle.
What are intrusive igneous rocks? Rocks that form when magma hardens beneath earth's surface are called intrusive igneous rocks.
What are extrusive igneous rocks? When lava hardens the rocks that are formed are extrusive rocks.
WHat is coarse-grained texture? Slow cooling results in the formation of large crystals.
What is fine-grained texture? Rapid cooling of magma or lava results in rocks with small, interconnected mineral grains.
What is weathering? WWeathering is a process in which rocks are physically and chemically broken down by water, air and living things.
What other classification for igneous rocks are ther? Porphyritic texture, granitic composition, basaltic composition, andeistic composition.
what are sediments? sediments are rocks that have been broken up to form small rocks.
how do sedimentary rocks form? sedimentary rocks form from sediments compacting.
how do intrusive igneous rocks form? intrusive igneous rocks form when lava hardens beneath earths surface.
how do etrusive igneous rocks form? extrusive igneous rocks form when lava hardens
