Rocks

What are rocks? A rock is any solid mass of mineral or mineral-like matter that occurs naturally as part of our planet.
What is the rock cycle? The rock cycle is the cycle in which different types of rock can change between eachother.
What is igneous rock? Igneous rock is rock that forms from cooled magma or lava.
Fined grained textured is.. Rapid cooling of magma or lava.
What is basaltic composition? Rocks that contain many dark silicate minerals.
What is Granite composition? Igneous rocks in which these are the main minerals.
What is Magma? Magma is molten material that forms deep beneath earth's surface.
When magma cools and hardens.... Igneous rocks form.
What are sediments? Sediments are weathered pieces of material.
Weathering is.. a process in which rocks are broken down.
Igneous in latin is... Fire.
What is intrusive? Intrusive means it is formed under the surface of the crust
What is extrusive? Extrusive means it is formed on or above the surface of the earth
What is porphyritic texture? Rocks with very different sized minerals experience different rates of cooling
How do chemical sedimentary rocks form? When dissolved substances precipitate, or seperate from water solution.
What is sedimentary rock? Sedimentary rock is rock made of cemented particles of other rocks.
What is metomorphic rock? Metomorphic rock is rock that has been changed by heat and pressure.
Glassy texture is found in... Igneous rock that cools very fast.
Coarse grained texture is founed in... Igneous rock that cools slowly.
Biochemical rocks are... Sedimentary rock that forms when dissolved substances precipitate, form water.
