Earth Science

QuestionAnswer
What is a renewable resources? A renewable resource can be replenished in over a fairly short time spans such as months, years and decades.
What are nonrenewable resources? A nonrenewable resource takes millions of years to form and accumulate.
Fossil Fuels are... Fossil fuels are any hyrdrocarbon that may be used as a source of energy.
What is Ore? a naturally occurring solid material from which a metal or valuable mineral can be profitably extracted.
What is solar energy? Solar energy is produced by using the sun's heat to produce electricity.
What is nuclear energy? In nuclear fusion, the nuclei of heavy atoms such as uranium-235 are bombarded with neutrons. the uranium nuclei then split into smaller nuclei and emit neutrons and heat energy.
What is wind energy? Wind energy is produced by turbines that are spun by the wind to turn a generater
Geothermal energy is... Hot water used directly for heating and to turn turbines to generate electric power.
How does Tidal power work? Tidal power is harnessed by constructing a dam across the mouth of a bay or estuary.
What is the water planet? The Water planet is earth
Point source solution is... pollution that comes from a know and specific location.
Nonpoint source pollution is... pollution that does not have a specific that does not have a specific point of origin.
What is Runoff? Runoff is the water that flows over the land rather than seeping into the ground.
What do Earth's land resources provide? Earth's kand provides soil and forests, as well as mineral and energy resources.
What is conservation? Conservation is the careful use of resources.
What was the clean air act? In 1970, Congress passsed the clean air act, the nations most important air pollution law.
How did people help to protect clean water? Starting in the 1970 the federal goverment passed several laws to prevent or decrease pollution and protect resources.
