Rocks and Minerals

QuestionAnswer
What is a mineral? A solid nonliving material with chemical makeup.
Where are minerals found? In the crust of the Earth.
Some properties we use to identify minerals are...? Luster, color, hardness, texture, streak, cleavage.
What is luster? The way a mineral shines or reflects light. Metallic or Non metallic
What is streak? the color of a mineral when it is ground into powder.
What is hardness? the measure of how easily a mineral can be scratched.
What is cleavage? the tendency of a mineral to split evenly on flat surfaces.
How is color determined? by the mineral's chemical makeup.
what is texture? the way something feels.
What is a rock? A solid made up of one or more minerals.
