Identify the layers of the Earth. Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core.
What is rotation? Earth causing day and night by spinning in a circle, staying in one place.
What is revolution? Earth orbiting around the Sun once.
How does the Earth's tilt cause places in the mid-latitude to have different seasons? Mid-latitude has changing seasons because it it in the zone of indirect and direct sunlight.
What is the climate of the mid-lattitude like? Mid-lattitude has changing seasons.
What is the climate of the high-lattitude like? High-lattitude is cold.
What is the climate of the low-lattitude like? Low-lattitude is warm.
What happens to climate as the elevation increases? It gets colder.
What is a rain shadow? The side of the mountain rain doesn't reach.
Which climates are best for people to live in? Mid-lattitude or high-lattitude because they are warm and you can grow crops.
Which climates are worst for people to live in? Low-lattitude because its cold and you can't grow crops.
What are tectonic plates? Earth's rigid crust made up of 16 enormous pieces.
What is a fault? Place where two plates grind together.
What is an earthquake? Shaking or trembling of Earth's crust.
What are some positive effects of volcanoes? Ash and lava break down soil which is good for crops, Provides minerals that are used in soap, glass, concrete, and other materials
What is weathering? Process by which Earth's surface is worn away by forces such as wind, rain, chemicals, movement of ice, and flowing water.
What is erosion? Process that works with weathering to change surface features of Earth.
What is a positive and negative of agriculture? Positive: Increases food supply Negative: Slash-and-burn
What is a positive and negative of dam building? Positive: Prevents floods Negative: Takes water away from other places
What is a positive and negative of deforestation? Positive: Land can be used for building homes, farmlands, businesses Negative: Cutting down trees can lead to global warming.
What is a positive and negative of urbanization? Positive: Gives people opportunities Negative: Can create food shortage
What is a positive and negative of desertification? Positive: None Negative: Soil becomes useless
What is a positive and negative of mining? Positive: Produces energy Negative: Creates sinkholes
Which landforms are most desirable to live near? River: Has water, transportation, fish, fertile soil. Plain: Has grass, animals, flat land for building, space for farms.
