Groundwater

Groundwater 0.30% of all water,4 million km3 may stay 1000’s of years,(vs. in streams 10 days)
Porosity is amount of pore spaces.
Upper boundary is water table.

Permeability ability of material to let water pass.
Aquifers are permeable sediments with large pores. gravel/sand
Aquicludes are barriers to groundwater flow. silt, clay, shale clay-lined ponds/landfills
Springs Natural discharge of groundwater.Occurs where aquifer intersects surface.Temperature usually regional average.
Hot springs (>37 oC) near…igneous activity deep aquifers
Geyser is explosive hot spring.
