Week 11 Vocabulary for Environmental Science

TermDefinition
coal an organic sedimentary rock, considered a solid fossil fuel formed from ancient plant remains buried over time
lignite a low-quality type of coal with a brown color
bituminous a medium-quality coal with a dark brown to black color
anthracite a high-quality coal with a glassy, dark black appearance
nuclear fission splitting atoms apart to get energy, uses mostly uranium
nuclear fusion combining atoms to get energy, usually Hydrogen atoms (this is what our sun does)
