TermDefinition
BIOSPHERE The layer around the planet in which all life exists.
GEOSPHERE Is a part of the biosphere occupied by earth.
ATMOSPHERE Is a part of the biosphere occupied by air.
HYDROSPHERE The part of the biosphere occupied by water.
TECTONIC PLATES Are the structures on which continents and oceans rest.
WEATHER Is what the conditions of the atmosphere are like over a short period of time.
CLIMATE Is how the atmosphere behaves over a long period of time.
CONTINENTAL CRUST Is the crust underlying the continents.
OCEANIC CRUST Is the crust underlying the oceans.
VOLCANO Is a hole or vent in the earths crust where molten rock, gases and ash are erupted.
EARTHQUAKE Vibration of earth caused by a sudden release of energy.
MAGMA Molten rock that has solidified on the earth’s surface.
LAVA Molten rock formed when rocks of the mantle or crust melt.
FAULTLINE It is a break in the rocks of the earth’s crust.
