Weather Watch 1.1 - 1.3 Vocabulary Terms

| temperature | a measure of the average movement of particles of matter. |
| relative humidity | measure of the amount of water vapor in the air compared to the maximum possible amount that air can hold at a particular temperature; given as a percent, between 0 percent and 100 percent. |
| precipitation | water that falls to the ground as rain, snow, hail, or sleet. |
| degrees Fahrenheit(°F) | a unit of measurement for temperature. At sea level, water freezes at 32° and boils at 212°. |
| degrees Celsius (°C) | a unit of measurement for temperature. At sea level, water freezes at 0° and boils at 100°. |
| air pressure | a measure of the force that air exerts on each square inch of a surface. |
| barometer | an instrument used to measure air pressure. |
| wind | the movement of air. |
| climate | the normal weather conditions of a region, throughout the year, averaged over a series of years. |
| rain gauge | a tool used to measure precipitation. |
| liquid | matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape. It takes the shape of its container. The particles remain close together and slide past one another in a fluid motion. |
| anemometer | an instrument used to measure wind speed. |
| wind vane | a tool for measuring wind direction |
| climate region | a region of the United States assigned to a NOAA Regional Climate Center. |
