N112 Calcium blocker

N112 - Calcium Channel Blockers for mid term

Hypertension Uses Calcium channel blocker inhibit calcium into cell membranes – resulting in decreased PVR – decreased BP – allows heart muscle to relax
Uses in Angina Dilate coronary vessels and inhibit coronary spasms – allows more O2 into the heart
Used with Dysrhythmias Slows AV conduction
Side effects Hypotension, dizziness, GI upset, decreased HR, peripheral edema
Contraindicated for Patients with CHF, due to decreased contraction of the heart
Avoid excessive heat May exacerbate drop in BP
May take with Food to prevent GI upset
Orthostatic hypotension Change position slowly to avoid
