Vocab Study Guide Chapter 9

Logistics The branch of military science and operations dealing with the procurement, supply, and maintenance of equipment, with the movement, evacuation, and hospitalization of personnel, with the provision of facilities and services, and with related matters.
Entangled To involve in difficulties.
Overfishing To fish so as to deplete the supply of fish in certain waters:
Parasites An organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment.
Waning To draw to a close; approach an end:
Rehabilitation To restore to a condition of good health, ability to work, or the like.
Emaciated To make abnormally lean or thin by a gradual wasting away of flesh.
Herring An important food fish, found in enormous shoals in the North Atlantic.
Stranded To drive or leave (a ship, fish, etc.) aground or ashore:
Vaccinations Inoculation with a vaccine in order to protect against a particular disease.
Emit To send forth (liquid, light, heat, sound, particles, etc.); discharge.
Phenomenon Something that is impressive or extraordinary.
Ecosystem A system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment.
Biomass A system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment.
Detrimental Causing detriment; damaging; harmful.
Habitats the natural environment of an organism; place that is natural for the life and growth of an organism
Residue Something that remains after a part is removed, disposed of, or used; remainder; rest; remnant.
Replenish To make full or complete again, as by supplying what is lacking, used up, etc.:
Deforestation To divest or clear of forests or trees:
Harnessed The combination of straps, bands, and other parts forming the working gear of a draft animal.
