PLANT VOCABULARY

Lesson 1, 2 and 3 Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
What is a cell? the smallest and most basic unit of a living thing
What is a leaf the plant part that collects sunlight and gases from the air and uses them to make food for the plant
What is a nutrient? a substance that living things need to survive and grow
What is a plant? a living thing that grows on land or in the water, cannot move from place to place, and usually has green leaves
What is a root? the plant part that takes in water and nutrients and provides support for the plant
What is a stem? the plant part that holds up the leaves and carries water and nutrients through the plant
What are netted veins? veins that branch out from main veins
What is a vein? A tube that carries food, water, and nutrients throughout a leaf.
What are parallel veins? Veins that run in straight lines next to each other.
What does classify mean? To sort things into groups based on their characteristics.
What is a leaf margin? The shape of the leaf's outer edge. For example, smooth or jagged.
What is an environment? Everything that surrounds and affects a living thing.
What does reproduce mean? It means to make new living things the same kind.
