evolution of EPS (extrapyramidal system) side effects 4 h acute dystonia (muscle spasm, stiffness, oculogyric crisis). 4 d akinesia (Parkinsonian sxs). 4 wk akathisia (restlessness). 4 mo tardive dyskinesia (often irreversible)
Toxicity: antipsychotics extrapyramidal system side effects, endocrine side effects (DA receptor antagonism -> hyperprolactinemia -> galactorrhea), side effects arising from blocking muscarinic (dry mouth, constipation, alpha (hypotension), and histamine (sedation)receptors.
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome: give symptoms and treatment rigidity, myoglobinuria, autonomic instability, hyperpyrexia treatment: dantrolene and dopamine agonists
treatment: Tourette's antipsychotics (haldol)
treatment: Schizophrenia antipsychotics
treatment: panic disorder TCAs, Buspirone
treatment: OCD SSRI
Depression with insomnia Trazodone, Mirtazapine
treatment: Depression SSRI, TCAs

Difference between repression vs. suppression withholding idea/feeling from conscious awareness. Repression=involuntary, immature defense vs. Suppression=voluntary, mature defense
Describing murder in graphic detail with no emotional response. What defense mechanism is this? Isolation = separation of feelings from ideas and events.
Delerium Tremens. What is the order of symptom appearance and what is the treatment? Autonomic system hyperactivity (tachycardia, tremors, anxiety), psychotic sxs (hallucinationn, delusions), confusion. Treat with BZD
heroin addicts are at risk for what? hepatitis, abscesses, overdose, hemorrhoids, AIDS, and right sided endocarditis.
