Ocean currents vocab

QuestionAnswer
Ocean current Sream like movements of water in the ocean
Surface current An ocean current that occurs on the surface of the ocean
Deep current A current that occurs deep below the surface of the ocean
Convection current Movement of water caused by differences in density
Coriolis effect The deflection of moving objects away from a streight line. This is what causes the ocean currents to NOT travel in streight lines
Upwelling Currents that move away from a shoreline where cold water comes to the surface to replace warmer surface water. This type of current often brings water that is nutrient rich and very cold to the surface
