Bio Q 1 Assessment

QuestionAnswer
What can you see under a compound light microscope? singled celled organisms, cells, bacteria, chromosomes, organelles, and blood.
What is a catalyst? Enzymes are protein catalysts. They lower the activation energy of a reaction.
chloroplast The organelle that enables plants to make carbohydrataes from carbon dioxide.
Homeostasis Maintaining a stable internal environment.
Proteins Macromolecule made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen.
Characteristics of living organisms Use energy, reproduces, maintains homeostasis.
enzymes An enzyme binds to a specific substrate for the reaction catalyzed.
Nucleic Acids store genetic information, transfer genetic informatin, copy genetic information
Amino Acid is to _____________ Protein
Monosaccaharides is to _____________ Carbohydrates
Fatty acids are to ____________ Lipids
Nucleotides are to ______________ Nucleic acids
If an enzyme was placed in an environment that was too acidic or too basic for it, what would happen? The enzyme would not work.
If an enzyme was placed in an environment that is similar to the environment that it works best in then that enzyme would.... continue to function because the pH of the environment is similar.
Info about Enzymes Can be re-used, speed up chemical reactions, lower the activation energy of a reaction.
Function of proteins move substances into and out of the cell, store and transmit genetic information, controls rate of reactions.
Organic Contains carbon
Function of lipid in cell membrane macromolecule that creates a barrier in the cell membrane.
Elements found in organic macromolecules Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, Nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus CHNOPS

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
