QuestionAnswer
orginelle a structural and functional unit, such as a mitochondrion, in a cell or unicellular organism
cell membrane a very thin membrane, composed of lipids and protein, that surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell and controls the passage of substances into and out of the cell
chromatin readily substance of a cell nucleus that forms chromosomes during cell division.
ribosome a tiny, somewhat mitten-shaped organelle occurring in great numbers in the cell cytoplasm either freely, in small clusters
chloroplast a plastid containing chlorophyll
lysosome a cell organelle containing enzymes that digest particles and that disolves the cell after its death.
hydrophobic of or pertaining to hydrophobia
hyrophilic tending to dissolve in, mix with, or be wetted by water: a hydrophilic colloid Compare
endoplasmic recticlum the inner portion of the cytoplasm of a cell reticulated system or structure.
golgi complex an organelle that takes up and processes secretory and synthetic products from the endoplasmic reticulum
mitochandria an organelle in the cytoplasm of cells that functions in energy production
nucleie membrane the double-layered membrane surrounding the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell, separating the nucleoplasm from the cytoplasm
chromosos any of several threadlike bodies, consisting of chromatin, that carry the genes in a linear order
cell wall the definite boundary or wall that is part of the outer structure of certain cells, as a plant cell
nuleus a specialized, usually spherical mass of protoplasm that controls the cell
cytoplsm the cell substance between the cell membrane and the nucleus, containing the cytosol, organelles, cytoskeleton
golgi body an organelle that has endoplasmic reticulum
vacuole a membrane-bound cavity within a cell, often containing a watery liquid or secretion
vesicle a small bladderlike cavity, especially one filled with fluid
cytoskeleton a shifting lattice arrangement of structural and contractile components distributed throughout the cell cytoplasm, composed of microtubules, microfilaments
nucleolus a conspicuous, rounded body within the nucleus of a cell
chlorophyll the green coloring matter of leaves and plants, essential to the production of carbohydrates by photosynthesis
