environment everything both living and nonliving that surrounds and influences and organism
environmental factor each separate part of an environment
optimum factor best temperature, light, and moisture for the growth of an organism
organism any living thing, including plants and animals
terrarium minigarden
variable any factor that can be controlled or changed in an experiment
beetle a type of insect with special forewings, which form hardened wing covers that cover a second pair of wings
drought A long period of dry weather
tolerance the ability of an organism to survive unfavorable conditions
preferred environment The set of environmental conditions that an organism appears to choose over other conditions.
isopod A small crustacean with 14 legs that all function the same.
food chain A description of the feeding sequence of one set of organisms in an ecosystem, such as grass seeds, chipmunk, and hawk. Arrows point in the direction of the flow of energy from one organism to another
