Solar System-Descrip

TermDefinition
Elliptical Shaped like a flattened circle.
Geocentric Describes something that uses Earth as the reference point.
Gravitational Force The force of attraction between all masses in the universe; especially the attraction of the earth's mass for bodies near its surface.
Heliocentric Sun-centered
Moon The natural satellite of the earth, visible chiefly at night by reflected light from the sun.
Orbit The path that a body follows as it travels around another body in space.
Planet A relatively large spherical body that orbits a star.
Solar System The sun and all of the planets and other bodies that travel around it.
Parallax The effect whereby the position or direction of an object appears to differ when viewed from different positions, e.g., through the viewfinder and the lens of a camera.
